Can we really trust social media?

Posted: Nov 06 2015

You may have heard rumblings about Essena O'Neill and her video on why she quit social media (if you haven’t - you can watch it here). A lot of people have weighed in on this discussion and we find it quite an interesting one.

Many of the backlash posts on this topic explain how social media is used for many good things and not just someones fake/real ‘perfect life'. As you may know, we believe in honesty and transparency to our customers, which is why we don't use filters or Photoshop our images EVER. But we still think there’s a place for social media.

So let’s take a step back and see social media for what it is: just an online tool that we, as consumers, can utilise however we want. As a social media user - YOU have the control.

YOU have the control to let someone's seemingly perfect life make you feel bad.
YOU have the control to use social media to spread good or bad vibes.
YOU have the control to let social media consume hours or just minutes of your day.
YOU control if you worry about the numbers: the likes, the followers, the comments.

Essena's latest video showed she realised she could make these decisions, and did so by moving away from social media completely. And that choice was entirely up to her - as it is you.
